House for Two Artists
Art is life. A house for two artists, one a painter and print maker, the other a sculptor. Having resided in the home for many years, the former art studio was a converted attic. This space had low ceilings, two small windows, was hot in the summer and cold in the winter, and was isolated from the functions of the home. In the process of modernizing the home, stripping away decades of renovations, and architecturally reorganizing the spaces for better family function, we also brought the artist studio into the formal forefront as an interactive and entertaining space. The art studio now flooded with natural daylight and views to the outdoor living areas, has durable and sacrificial finishes like plywood flooring that beg for the artist’s to create fearlessly.
